The Exchange server offers more features than a standard mail server, incl. calendars, meetings and contacts.

These services are accessible with protocols that are not natively supported by Mozilla Thunderbird application.

If you really want to keep using the Thunderbird app, please consider following options:

Option 1: Full functionality, advanced configuration

To access all features of the Exchange server, we advice you to use the multi-platform DavMail tool.

This application deploys a local service that proxies the communication between Thunderbird and Exchange. It connects to Exchange via it's native protocols and then forwards the services to other applications (like Thunderbird) locally offering a wide range of more popular protocols (IMAPS, CalDAV etc.).

Option 2: Easy configuration, no support for extended services

An easier alternative is to connect the Thunderbird with Exchange using IMAPS/SMTPS protocols.

This solution does not provide any access to extended services (calendars, meetings, contacts) and offers limited support for shared mailboxes.

When configuring IMAPS and SMTPS, please use following parameters:

  • server address: mail.uksw.edu.pl
  • encryption: yes, SSL
  • port numbers: standard (IMAPS: 993, SMTPS: 465)
  • personal mailbox login: identifier@uksw.edu.pl
  • shared mialbox login: identifier@uksw.edu.pl\shared.mailbox.address; np. 12345@uksw.edu.pl\ourmailbox@uksw.edu.pl

Support limitations

Aside the above hints, CSI offers no support or help with configuration when using these solutions. Users may use them, as long as they have the necessary skills and means.

When having trouble with Thunderbird configuration along the described methords, please fall back to the default, supported access methods described on this website; especially the easiest method, ie. the website: https://mail.uksw.edu.pl.
